MKERB in Action: Practical, efficient and built to last

Watch how MKERB stainless steel kerbing proved its versatility and practicality during a recent installation at a food processing facility in the North West of England. With the 1m high concrete retaining wall already in place, MKERB was installed directly to the wall, enabling internal wall panels to be fitted prior to the concrete floor slab being poured. So the project team was able to work 'back to front' thanks to MKERB’s unique design that supports out-of-sequence installation without compromise.

✅   Large volume of kerbing installed in just 3 days

✅   Enabled panel installation ahead of floor pour

✅   Delivered major time and cost savings for the client

Whether you're managing a refit, leading a new-build, or aiming to upgrade hygiene standards, MKERB is engineered to simplify installation while meeting the highest standards in performance.

Here we go again… Hangar roof number three!

While MKERB is best known for our unique stainless steel kerbing system installed across the UK, our skills don’t stop there.

We have been commissioned to work on a very different kind of steel structure once again — the roof of a World War II aircraft hangar, now repurposed for commercial use.

Although curved concrete structures are incredibly strong after many years of withstanding the often adverse British weather conditions we needed to design and install a robust galvanised steel frame as a firm foundation for the new roof cladding.

A look back at our largest installation to date

This MKERB installation at an impressively large fire-rated project recently came to a close. At the time of its completion we had supplied and installed approximately 3.5 kilometres of MKERB stainless steel kerbing plus an estimated 500 column guards and door casings in this extensive new factory.

No small feat - even with MKERB’s unique manufacturing process which can churn out continuous lengths of up to 18m.
Great to see yet another completed MKERB installation - especially one that has to be our largest so far.

Something different showing MKERB's versatility

This installation in Dorset used MKERB as a 50mm lining panel to fit out a machinery sales showroom.

The journey down from Shropshire took 5 hours but the kerb was fitted by following evening and filled with concrete the next day. Job done!

MKERB proves to be the 'height' of efficiency

Once again MKERB proved to be the ‘height’ of efficiency for this new factory installation in Preston.

MKERB’s stainless steel kerb was lifted 100mm onto our shuttering system and filled with concrete to allow for the screed and flooring to be laid and the panels installed.

The installation at the 8,000 square foot meat cutting plant was completed on time and within budget - plus fitting MKERB also provided a really smart finish too.

MKERB helps to up the pace

MKERB helped to up the pace for this fast track job in Lincolnshire.

Three weeks in and this 3,000 square metre factory already has drains and kerbs fitted and filled with concrete, 100mm screed set to falls, a resin topcoat laid and protection on top.

More proof that using MKERB really is just the job when it comes to saving clients a significant amount of time and money.

How using MKERB avoid delays and delivers a much faster installation time

Our latest installation with Pentadel Project Management was for a food factory coldstore.

The first job was to fix the stainless steel protection kerb onto the freezer walls. Thanks to MKERB this could be done before the heater mat and insulation were installed. As usual full length kerbs of up to 18m were used which only required welding on the corners and door ends. The result was that 500m of MKERB was installed in these freezer rooms in just 2 days.

MKERB’s flexibility means that the infill concrete is poured after the floor is laid during the curing process moving the job along and providing significant time savings. So although this would appear to be a ‘back to front’ way of doing things using MKERB means the client avoids the inevitable delays caused by having to wait for floors to dry and benefits from speeding up the required installation time.

MKERB keeps the job moving on - whatever the weather

Installing floors in the colder months is fraught with potential delays due to sub zero temperatures as an installation is forced to be put ‘on hold’. But thanks to MKERB’s shuttering solution this job was pushed along in spite of the winter weather.

As usual MKERB was fitted directly onto the hard core using its unique jack system which allows a 4” gap for the flooring to be added later. However for this installation our shuttering was bolted on to temporarily ‘fill the gap’ to keep the temperature up so the kerb could be filled with concrete and the panels fitted to create the rooms.

Once the walls were up and the rooms were finished the shuttering was then removed to enable the floors to be laid without incurring any delays.

MKERB's shuttering system delivers massive time savings with minimal disruption

5 days ago this site was just a steel framed building with a roof on it. But thanks to MKERB’s innovative shuttering system an impressive 221 linear metres were installed around the building in less than a week - enabling the sheeters to start work on the walls and allowing the inside flooring and outside finishing of paths etc to get underway - without any delays.

Using the traditional method it’s estimated it would have taken 4 weeks to dig the footings in on this site - weather permitting. Rain would have stopped the construction completely.

MKERB's stainless steel shuttering system forms the floor slab levels and gives a starter for any groundwork - inside and out - with a finish that allows sheeters to start installing immediately. Plus it provides excellent protection for the base of the building and it looks better too!

Introducing our latest innovative solution...

This new machine is the latest in a long line of innovative solutions specifically designed and developed by MKERB to make installations easier, quicker and more cost-effective. Using a unique process it delivers a fully automated, accurate and controlled continuous pour that takes the effort and mess out of filling kerb with concrete. Unlike traditional methods of mixing concrete and filling the kerb by hand this new machine makes the whole process faster and more efficient with a strong, long lasting fill that eliminates waste.

New build storage units using MKERB stainless steel shuttering

Installing MKERB before laying the concrete resulted in significant time savings for this new build.

Reg Baker, Managing of Ambrey Baker Construction Ltd., said "We're delighted with the time savings we made using MKERB's permanent shuttering. We didn't need to dig footings, wait for brickwork or suffer delays from having to wait for the right weather conditions for concrete.

"MKERB's stainless steel shuttering was not only fast and easy to fit it also gave us the flexibility to speed up the new build construction process knocking three weeks off the project time. And we're really pleased with the way the finished building looks too."

Introducing MKERB Next Generation - an exciting new addition to our innovative kerbing system

MKERB Next Generation is a winning combination of kerbing plus shuttering that's proven to provide huge time savings.

For example, 4 days into this job for Pentadel Project Management and an impressive 70% of the perimeter had already been installed.

Utilising MERB's all-in-one kerbing/shuttering system pushed the job on allowing the white wall panelling to progress as soon as the floor slab was poured.

Faster freezer construction with
MKERB pre-formed shutter

Building a freezer normally means concreting the floor before fitting the kerbing/shuttering which makes it harder and more difficult to install.
But for this project MKERB pre-formed shuttering was installed just as soon as the walls and ceilings were in place.
With 300m of shuttering fitted in only two days followed by the heater mat, floor insulation and the concrete infill one day later.
The result was a much faster completion time compared to traditional shuttering.

Conversion of an existing factory

1,200 metres of MKERB in continuous long lengths were fitted in 25% of the time required to install traditional 3 metre kerbing.

The ultimate freezer installation

MKERB was specified for this freezer to provide the ultimate in smart, hygienic installation as well as damage protection from fork lift trucks and other equipment.

Fitted prior to the concrete floor MKERB's durable stainless steel kerbing provides longer lasting protection in sub zero temperatures - avoiding the potential damage caused by installing kerbs in other materials (such as concrete) which can chip.

MKERB proves the "height" of efficient installation for this factory expansion project

The lorry loaded with MKERB for this job left our premises on a Tuesday. But before we could begin the installation 300m of kerbing had to be 'delivered' 12m up onto a mezzanine floor.

In spite of the initial challenges that presented installation still began the next day. 48 hours later an impressive 80% of the kerbing - including 14 doorways - had been completed.

Because we recognise that planning and preparation are key to the success of projects like this all the doorways were pre-built at our factory to make onsite installation as easy and efficient as possible.

Installing MKERB is proven to be faster and more cost-effective

This freezer installation was completed in a fraction of the time it would take to fit traditional 3m kerb sections. Manufactured in continuous lengths of up to 18m using unique production methods MKERB is ideal for anywhere that requires a clean process.

MKERB Next Generation - a giant step forward in reducing construction time and increasing efficiency

MKERB Next Generation kerbing systems not only provide massive time and cost savings they're also proving to be exceptionally versatile too, as this recent installation at a freezer and ambient store site shows.

Utilising permanent shuttering with reinforcing bars the latest addition to the MKERB range enables construction to be completed far more quickly than normal by providing an effective perimeter construction in just one hit.

Other innovations include a cleverly designed unique hanging bracket that allows the shuttering to be suspended securely whilst the concrete fill is completed.

MKERB to the rescue!

MKERB can still be installed even in the most extreme conditions. This fast track installation was completed in spite of the fact that the factory had no roof and the floor was flooded.

Retro-fit kerbing

Replacing old, damaged or worn out kerbing needn't mean removing what's currently there - or even using like-for-like materials.

MKERB stainless steel kerb can be quickly and easily retro-fitted onto an existing installation to provide a smart, new durable finish in no time.
